Montserrat Flores Maso joined the Pre-Academy over a month ago as assistant educator with the Impact U8. She already has a lot of experience and is also the first woman to be part of the technical staff of the Academy. She had already worked with Philippe Gajevic, the Pre-Academy coordinator, so it was only natural for her to join him again with the Impact.
“Philippe is a really good leader, so it is reassuring to work with someone you worked with before,” said Montserrat Flores Maso. “I also think that the philosophy to develop tomorrow’s players is really interesting. I’m happy to work with young players that are motivated and open to learning. Working for the Impact in an elite structure is also a good challenge.”
Flores started coaching in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie club for 10 years, until 2016. Then, she joined Soccer Concordia with many roles, before becoming the technical director’s assistant.
She then moved to the Lac St-Louis Regional Soccer Association, partner with the Montreal Impact, as the identification coordinator and manager or the women’s program, as well as being an assistant coach with the Lac St-Louis Lakers women’s team in PLSQ.
With the Impact, Flores Maso hopes her qualities will benefit the young U8 players.
“At the Impact, the facilities are amazing and professional, just like the team,” continued Flores Maso. “The staff is really involved, so the kids feel that they are in a professional and elite environment.”
If the field is traditionally a men’s domain, at least in the men’s game, Flores Maso, who holds the provincial B Licence and who is currently finishing a degree with a major in kinesiology at the Université de Montréal, had a woman as a mentor.
“In my last three years at Concordia, Lyne Beauregard helped me a lot,” said Flores Maso. “She is a coach with a lot of energy on the field and I had the chance to have a model close to me. Right now, I want to learn as much as possible and go as far as possible. My dream is to coach at the highest level.”
