QUEBEC - FC Montreal scored a late goal to win 3-2 over l'Université de Laval on Sunday night, at Stade Telus, in its third preparation game of the preseason.
After hitting the post twice earlier in the game, midfielder Philippe Lincourt-Joseph scored the winner in the 90thminute on an accurate low shot, after accepting a recovery pass from trialist forward Dominic McGiveron.
"The play was more interesting int his game than previous, but it wasn't high quality," said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "Defensively, we were fragile and up front , the animation was good, but not the efficiency in front of goal. It's still preparation for preseason and it was better than the last few weeks, but we want to be better in six or seven weeks. We are where we should be at this time of the year. We will have to be a little bit more solid and consistent in our third during the game against the first team on Saturday."
The Rouge et Or opened the scoring following a run down the left flank with the ball, the winger crossed it into the box and his teammate scored on his first touch in the 10thminute.
In the 28th minute, forward Jacques Haman applied pressure on the opposing goalkeeper, intercepting the ball in the process. He then pushed it in the back of the net to level the game.
After a foul in the box by defender Jems Geffrard, the Rouge et Or took advantage of a penalty to take the lead again in the 51st minute.
In the 70
th
minute, winger Fabio Morelli sent a deep ball for winger Yacine Ait Slimane, who cut back to the middle before passing back to Morelli in the box, who scored on his first touch.
There were subs made every 30 minutes to ensure every player played 60 minutes.
"The goal was to get players 45 to 60 minutes so we can bring them progressively to 90 minutes, which is what we aim for," added Eullaffroy.
