Expansion of Saputo Stadium to begin in September

Following unsatisfying results regarding proposal bids, and in order to respect the 23M $ of public money, the organization will proceed in August to a second invitation to receive bids with modified technical specifications concerning the infrastructure.

"The cost was globally too high," said Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo. "It is not a question for us to exceed the total public money awarded for the expansion project. We have worked hard over the last few weeks with the different people involved to find solutions to expand our stadium to 20,000 seats, under a roof, while respecting the initial budget."

The time table for construction will be slightly modified. The new Saputo Stadium will be ready for the beginning of the 2012 summer, rather than in the spring. The Impact will then play a limited number of games at Olympic Stadium, including the home opener.

"We had the option to start the season on the road or to look for an alternative,” added Joey Saputo. “We prefer to play a few matches at Olympic Stadium. We want all games to be an event, especially our first game in MLS in Montreal.”

The club also confirmed that season ticket holders will receive preferential treatment at Olympic Stadium. All season ticket holders will get equivalent seats to their usual seats.
