Bush led the NASL with a 0.76 goal-against average, allowing only 14 goals in 19 games and 1,668 minutes of play. Bush ended the season with a career-best nine shutouts, including seven in his last 10 games of the season.
“I'm glad to receive this award as it means a lot for a goalkeeper,” said Evan Bush. “I also think it is a reflection of the team’s performance this season. We played well defensively, especially in the second half of the season, from the defenders to the forwards. I think everyone of my teammates played a big part in getting this award.”
“This is a deserving honour. Evan showed us a lot of good things this year, as much on the field as his personality,” said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. “After Bill (Gaudette) suffered his injury, he answered the call when given the chance to become the starting goalkeeper. He was solid throughout the season, but in particular in the second half as we were fighting for a playoff spot.”
Bush joined the Impact on March 11, after playing in 25 games with the now defunct Crystal Palace Baltimore in 2010, in North American second division. In 2009, he donned the uniform of the Cleveland City Stars, also in second division.
Bush also wore the colours of the Chicago Fire Premier, the reserve team for the Chicago Fire (MLS), in 2006. Originally from Concord Township, Ohio, he played his college career with Akron, from 2005 to 2008.
