CHARLESTON 1 IMPACT 0

Battery forward Daniel Antoniuk scored the game-winning goal at the 68th minute. On a cross from midfielder Scott Buete, who entered the match two minutes earlier, Antoniuk took a low left-foot shot from near the penalty box that beat goalkeeper Matt Jordan to his right.

"Charleston played an extremely solid game defensively and they were a bit lucky that we didn't score," declared head coach Marc Dos Santos. "After a good first half on our side, the second half took off on a slow pace, and it's ultimately the team that made the least mistakes that won. We cannot give away goals like the one today following a turnaround."

"We created nice occasions but it wasn’t enough. We absolutely need to score," noted captain Mauro Biello, who played the 80 first minutes of the match. They recovered a lot of balls to prevent us from scoring. We need to find ourselves and to find a way to get the ball rolling for us again."

Goalkeeper Matt Jordan, who faced 9 shots, notably stood out at the 59th minute when Battery forward Daniel Antoniuk fired a powerful low shot 20 meters out that Jordan stopped by plunging to his right.

“During the entire match, we never really felt that we were in danger because we were dealing well with their long balls,” said central defender Nevio Pizzolitto. “We did not score today and we gave up a bad goal. We cannot continue doing this. We have to continue working and push to find solutions.”

Defender Stefano Pesoli, who missed 15 games due to a knee injury, played the full 90 minutes of the match.

Defender Simon Gatti, who played the 72 first minutes of the game, reached the 5,000 minutes played mark in his career.

The Montreal Impact will play its next match against the Syrian selection this Wednesday at Saputo Stadium, in the third of six international games presented this summer in Montreal.
