Capital City took the lead at the 35th minute of play, when midfielder William Beauge received a long pass down the right wing, controlled the ball toward the center of the field and took a low shot from 25 meters out, beating Impact goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau to his left.
The Impact U21 tied the game at the 62nd minute, when midfielder Wandrille Lefevre scored on a penalty, beating Capital City goalkeeper Clinton Irwin with a low shot to his right.
"We fully deserved the tie," said Impact U21 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "We were lacking toughness on 1-on-1 situations during the first half, but we played a really good second half. By increasing our intensity and physical play, we gained mobility, we were more creative and we increased our game speed, which created problems for the opponent. We are going to play the away game with the same attitude."
The U21s will play the away game of the series on October 16 at 3pm in Ottawa.
