Following its 1-0 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo last Saturday to open the Jeux de la Francophonie, Canada-Quebec’s selection lost 3-0 against France on Monday, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Head coach Valerio Gazzola’s team allowed its first goals of the tournament against a good French team.
“We started off strong with a good chance to score in the first minutes that could have changed the game,” said goalkeeper James Pantemis. “I’m still happy with how organized our defence was and in the way the players finished strong.”
Canada-Quebec will face Haiti this Wednesday for the last group game.
With three points in two games, the Canadian team can only qualify for the semifinals with a win on Wednesday, combined with a tie or a loss from France, with four points, against the Democratic Republic of Congo in its last game.
