The Montreal Impact selected midfielder Blake Smith, from the University of New Mexico, in the 8th spot of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.
Smith, who couldn't be in Indianapolis, was watching the draft from his home in Texas.
“I was watching the draft, hoping to hear my name called,” Smith told Impact Media. “When it popped up, it was exciting to see that all your hard work had finally paid off and I’m really excited to get to Montreal and kick things off.”
Director of soccer operations met Impact Media shortly after the Impact selected Smith.
"We've been following Blake for a while now," said Jordan. "He is a very good outside midfielder who provides excellent service into the box. He has really good speed and is capable of varying his game. We are very happy to add him to the roster."
