The home opener at Olympic Stadium on March 17 had a number of incredible moments, both in the buildup and on the pitch, which makes it undoubtedly the top memorable moment for 2012.
The first is that the Impact broke the attendance record (for the first of two times in 2012) at Olympic Stadium for a soccer game - 58,912 spectators - in its first ever game at home in MLS on that day against the Chicago Fire.
The city was abuzz with excitement as its pro soccer team was finally going to play a game in North America’s top flight at home. The crowd was electric on game night, exploding in the 56th minute when captain Davy Arnaud scored one of the most exciting goals of the year, heading home a cross by Sanna Nyassi to the opposite corner to score the team’s first ever goal in MLS.
“It was a special feeling… a special moment,” said Arnaud. “Not just for me, but also for the guys, and for the club.”

Despite the game ending in a 1-1 draw, supporters, spectators and employees alike still talk about that game, and that goal in particular, as a moment forever burned into their memory banks… so much so that it was later immortalized in a two-minute video by Tourism Canada that collected some of the most inspiring moments across Canada over the 2012 calendar year which includes the Impact’s first ever goal scored in MLS!
