The Montreal Impact Academy split their games over the weekend versus BW Gottschee in USSDA action, with the u18s winning 2-0 while the U16s fell, a first lost for either team after four games, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon, in New York.
Impact U18 extends unbeaten streak
First half goals by Marco Dominguez and Samuel Duffek were enough for the older side to secure the shutout, with Yann-Alexandre Fillion earning the clean sheet.
“Under the circumstances with the game being delayed, we played consistently,” said left back Aron Mkungilwa. “The field was in poor shape, which made it difficult on the technical side, but we were able to adjust by adhering to our coach’s message. We have had a really good start to the season, with the new players joining the group all bringing something interesting to the team.”
XI Impact U18: Yann-Alexandre Fillion, Leonardo Kossaka, Abdoulaye Samaké, Samuel Duffek, Pierre Lamothe, Marco Dominguez(cap), William Thavixay, Simon Lemire, Jimmy Sanon, Heikel Jarras, Aron Mkungilwa
First loss U16s this season
The U16 team went down by three goals before Santiago Gonzalez found one late on the road, eventually falling 3-1.
“Thierry Henry once said that every game is like climbing a mountain,” said U16 head coach Wilfried Nancy. “You climb down after every game to make sure that next time, you have a better grip on your way up. Every game is different. We weren’t very good in all the aspects of our game, and therefore, the result was logical. This game will be a reference point for the players in what not to do and understand the difference between success and excellence.”
XI Impact U16: Charles Desrochers, Mouhamed Touré, Steven Alberici, Kévin Tran, Mathieu Choinière, Moulay Kanzi Belghiti, Jackson Pickard, Santiago Gonzalez, Gabriel Balbinotti, Don Junior Bobe
The USSDA teams will play their next home games on Sunday, October 5 starting at 11am against the Oakwood Soccer Club on the synthetic field at Stade Saputo.
