Following a break for the Holidays, the Montreal Impact Academy returned to the pitch this past week, with tryouts for its sport-etudes program - while the current teams have returned to training for 2015.
Players from far away
The first round of tryouts took place last weekend, at the Marie-Victorin Sports Complex, with some 500 players born between 1999 and 2003 taking part on the first day
Of that group, 120 youngsters were invited back for a second round of tryouts this Saturday. Although a number of them are from the greater Montreal area, participants have come from Ottawa, Halifax, Gloucester and Rimouski, while others have travelled all the way from Burkina Faso, Panama, Venezuela, the U.S., and even China.
Back to the training pitch
All of the Academy teams have returned to the training pitch. The U23s began preparation for its first season in USL Pro – a first phase lasting six weeks, where medical and physical tests, along with different training regiments and friendly matches versus Quebec universities.
The Impact U18 and U16 teams have returned to training based on an individualized program, with physical tests set for the coming weeks, along with supplementary sports training other than soccer.
The club’s U14 and U13 squads are preparing for two tournaments, the Terrebonne Festival on January 24 and 25, as well as the Mauro Biello tournament on February 7 and 8.
