The Montreal Impact U18 and U16 teams were in action this weekend in their USSDA season. Both teams were in the State of New York to face Everton FC Westchester.
The U18s were the first on the field. Midfielder David Choinière opened the score early in the game, but Everton scored one back in the second half to tie the game 1-1.
The U16s were also the first to score in their game. The goal came from Raphaël Garcia in the 15th minute, but this time the Impact held its lead until the final whistle. The opponent got a penalty in the end of the game, but the shot went wide.
“It was a solid game where the opponent was looking for individual duels,” said Impact U16 head coach Nicolas Gagnon. “We were patient with the ball and created a few opportunities, but we could have been more efficient and put the game out of reach for them. We can be better and more accurate with our passes and our movements when we move forward on the field. I liked that every player involved in the game, whether they started or entered during the game, was involved. We feel that the players are making sacrifices for one another, which is essential to succeed.”
There are only 10 games left in the regular season before the playoffs. The U16 team is now in 9th position and the U18 team in 15th place, on 74 teams. For each age category, the first 32 teams reach the playoffs.
