Academy Report: U18s and U16s teams win big, U23s fall to Rochester in friendly

Impact U18 goal celebration 2014

The Montreal Impact U16 and U18 teams were huge winners at home this weekend, defeating the Everton FC Westchester by a combined 21-1 score in USSDA play.

The U18s (photo above) kicked things off in a goal fest on Saturday at the Marie-Victorin Sports Complex, defeating Everton 12-1. An own goal opened the flood gates, while Fabio Morelli scored a hat trick, Guillaume Trudel and Alexander Kulic scored braces, Samuel Duffek, Nevello Yoseke, Heikel Jarras and Mele Temguia added one goal apiece.

"No matter what the final score is, what's important is that we learn from every game,” said head coach Jason DiTullio. “We learned that when we play with confidence and respect our principles, we can create some exciting football together. Our identity was evident throughout 90 minutes. I’m proud of my team.”

The U16s kept the ball rolling by shutting out Westchester 9-0 at Stade Hébert. David Choinière, Juliano Cobuzzi and Pierre Lamothe doubled up while Don Junior Bobe, Esleyder Luarca and Jimmy-Shammar Sanon rounded out the scoring.

USSDA action resumes this Saturday, at the Saint-Jean-Vianney Sports Complex, as the Impact U18 and U16 teams will host the Revolution Empire, at 11am and 1:30pm respectively.

Impact U13 and U14 win

U13s and U14s were also victorious over the weekend. On Friday, the U13s defeated Rive-Sud 4-1 in a friendly, while the U14s topped ACP on Sunday by a 5-2 score.

U23s fall to Rhinos

The U23 squad traveled to Rochester to take on old Impact rivals, the Rochester Rhinos, in a friendly.

Despite the 3-0 loss, the U23s managed some encouraging moments in preparation for its PDL season, which gets started next month, while providing important minutes for pro defenders Maxim Tissot and Wandrille Lefèvre, as well as goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, who all started the game.

“It was a good game, intense because of the rivalry,” said Tissot. “It was a good test, for the young guys especially, even though they were a little bigger and more physical than us. It was good to get a full 90 minutes in after having not played in a little while, returning from an injury.”

The Impact U23 will play its next game on Sunday, April 13 against Vermont University.
