The U18 and U16 Impact teams continued their USSDA season last Sunday when they faced the New York Red Bulls youth teams.
The U18 opened the hostilities. Pierre Lamothe was the first to threaten the opposing goalkeeper, hitting the woodwork with a shot from outside the box. The Red Bulls went ahead a few minutes later in the first half, scoring on a counter. Despite an interesting play and many chances from both sides, New York got away with the 1-0 win.
“The players wanted to do well today,” said Impact U18 head coach Yoann Damet. “They put their heart and quality in the match, but were not rewarded. The group had a good game overall. We created many chances. We saw what we worked on in the previous weeks. It’s the type of loss on which you can build and move forward for the rest of the season.”
The U16 team lost 4-3 in the dying moments of the game. Both teams traded goals one after the other, as the Impact ended the game with 10 men after a red card. Mathieu Choinière, Tristano Fasulo and Dontaye Whittaker scored for the Bleu-blanc-noir.
Both Impact teams will start a series of four games on the road, starting with Seacoast United next Saturday. The teams will play their last game of the season on June 5, at the Montreal Impact training centre.
The U18 stand now in the 17th spot, while the U16 are ranked 10th. The first 32 teams of the 74 in the competition will make it to the first playoff round.
