Due to the match between the first team and FC Montreal on Saturday, the Impact U18 team played McGill University Sunday night, at the Complexe sportif Marie-Victorin.
It was the first game for head coach Yoann Damet with his new group. For their first game in 2016, the focus was mainly on their efforts and team spirit.
The team won 2-0 on goals from Louis-Philippe Paquin and Jimmy-Shammar Sanon.
“With this first game, we wanted to review the U18 roster, give an average of 60 minutes to most players and observe where we were after two weeks of work on specific concepts,” said U18 head coach Yoann Damet. “The game was satisfying and showed us what we have to do to be ready for the return of the season (USSDA). Finally, we haven’t played since the showcase in Florida and everyone, including myself, was happy to get back to competing.”
The Impact U18 will face Concordia University on Sunday night.
“These games are essential. Training every day is important, but we also need to find the right pace,” added Damet. “With these games, we want to apply the concepts we see in training to allow us to adjust and be more accurate in our preparation.”
Pre-Academy detections
The Pre-Academy detections, presented by Nutrilait, were also held this weekend. Over 300 players born between 2004 and 2008 (U8 to U12) were present during both days. Under the watchful eyes of the Academy and Pre-Academy technical staff, about a hundred players were selected to come to the second round on February 20th.
