The Montreal Impact Academy teams travelled to Connecticut this past weekend, with both the U18 and U16 teams falling to the Oakwood Soccer Club in USSDA action.
In the first matchup the U18s were bested by Oakwood 4-1 on Sunday at the TD Bank Oakwood Soccer Park. Jonathan Vallée scored the lone goal in the loss.
“The score line doesn’t accurately represent the game,” said U18 head coach Jason DiTullio. “We played well, but a lack of concentration for 15 minutes changed the entire outcome of the game. This is an experience that our guys will definitely learn a lot from. It proves that if we want to be successful we have to play 90 minutes in this league.”
The Impact U16 team took the pitch later that day, but their fate was similar as they were shutout 2-0 by Oakwood on the club’s first road trip of the season.
“We had a good performance by the group,” said U16 head coach Simon Gatti. “We played within our principals, but were unable to capitalize on our chances. That was the difference in the game. Oakwood is a good and competitive team. They capitalized on their chances."
The U16 team will host the final stage of round robin portion of the Generation Adidas Cup on the weekend of October 12 on the new turf field at Stade Saputo before both youth sides host the New England Revolution Academy also in Montreal on October 20 (U18 at 11am, U16 at 1pm).
