The Montreal Impact U21 team opened its 2013 season on the road with a draw and a loss this weekend, trying Rhode Island University 2-2 on Friday evening before falling 1-0 to the University of Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon.

The game against Rhode Island saw the Impact create a number of scoring opportunities, resulting in two nicely executed goals by forwards Frédéric Lajoie (5’) and Anthony Jackson-Hamel (43') in the draw.

The Impact then played a little too laidback in its matchup against UMass, especially in the first half, losing by a 1-0 score.

“I enjoyed watching our team on Friday,” said Impact U21 head coach Wilfried Nancy. “Collectively, we were very consistent and coherent in our movement. However, against UMass we didn’t do enough against an opponent that was there for the taking. Our casual attitude was not the right one to have.”

The Impact U21 will play its next game on the road against the University of Vermont on April 21.
