Academy: Impact U23 set to play home opener this weekend

Impact U23 starting lineup vs Weschester Flames

The Impact U23 will be playing its home opener in PDL at the Stade Saputo synthetic field this Sunday at 5pm, against the Westchester Flames.

In its recent season opening matchup against the Westchester Flames on May 17, the U23 won its first PDL game 4-0 over the Flames, dominating the shot count 12-6.

Forward Victor Ndiaye, who came out with two assists during the U23’s season opener, says that players are ready to play in Montreal.

“We are confident coming into our game on Sunday. We have already won against Westchester two weeks ago and playing at home is to our advantage. I think it will bring out the best in our team”.

“Playing at home gives us the opportunity to prepare for the game in our best conditions,” added Impact U23 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “We will have all our fans, friends and family here to support us and give us that extra boost of motivation.”

After tasting victory in its first game, the U23s lost their second game 3-0 to Real Boston Rams  last week.

“We did take some wrong turns against Boston, but we studied these mistakes and are ready to correct them for our next game,” explained Ndiaye. “We are in an adjustment period since we started our inaugural season in the PDL, it’s all new, but we are confident about our team and are constantly looking to learn and better ourselves.”

“The quality of a team is determined by its ability to bounce back and correct its mistakes after a win or a loss,” added Eullaffroy. “We have identified that the problem lies in the communication between what is said in practice and how it is translated into concrete actions on the field. That to me is the description of a professional player, to act out in a game in the way that was practiced beforehand, and our team understands this”.

Before that game in Montreal, the Impact U23 will have another game under its belt as it travels to Portsmouth High School this Friday to take on Seacoast.
