MONTREAL – FC Montreal will play against expansion team Louisville City FC Wednesday night, at 6:30pm, at Stade Saputo. Admission to the game will be free.
Only four days after tying the New York Red Bulls II at home by a 2-2 score, FC Montreal will host a new opponent in Louisville, now fourth in the Eastern Conference standings.
“It’s an expansion team that plays well,” said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “For now, they are at the top of the standings and it’s the first time we play them. The most important part of this game will be to confirm the progress that was made in two months, but also what we saw last game against the Red Bulls II.”
“We don’t really change our preparation,” said winger Emad Houache. “Every game, we prepare the same way because we want to dictate the play. We still respect the opponent and from what we know, it’s a team that likes to play from behind.”
One of Louisville’s strength is its defensive quality. The Kentucky team is second in USL for goals allowed with eight in 10 games, just behind Rochester (4).
The Bleu-blanc-noir is starting a positive sequence at home, with a win and a draw in its last two home games. The opportunity to build on this momentum is coming at the right time before Saturday’s game in Richmond.
In the span of eight days, FC Montreal will have played three games, including this one against Louisville City FC, followed by Saturday’s tilt in Richmond. Coaches have to adapt accordingly as the team plays this series of matches.
“As a coach, you can’t go game by game,” said Eullaffroy. “You have to think about the next few matchups and work with the schedule.”
On the roster side, Fabio Morelli, who was suspended last game following his ejection against the Rochester Rhinos, will be available for Wednesday’s match.
