USL Pregame – FC Montreal hosts the Charleston Battery on Thursday

PREGAMECH

MONTREAL – FC Montreal hosts the Charleston Battery this Thursday at 4pm on the synthetic pitch at Stade Saputo.

This game represents a fifth out of six to start the season played against clubs leading the Eastern Conference. However, Charleston may be the greatest threat that FC Montreal has faced this season.

"It is going to be the biggest challenge for us so far," said head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “We're playing against a very good team, who is still undefeated. Charleston is very fast moving forward and might be the strongest team technically we have encountered.”

Despite this, game preparation does not change.

"We aren’t approaching this match differently than others, '' said winger Frédéric Lajoie-Gravelle." This isn't just any other game as we are facing one of the best teams in the league, but we know our strengths and we know we can compete with teams from the top of table. Charleston is no exception.”

The Bleu-blanc-noir has yet to find a win in the USL. As the team prepares for its sixth game, its attacking minded players are aware that they must score more to get results.

"We are on track offensively," said Lajoie-Gravelle. “It is certain that in training, we are putting more emphasis on offence. We know that it is only a matter of time before it unblocks.”

The Battery is currently second in the USL with five wins and two draws. The team is also ranked second with 16 goals scored in seven games.

FC Montreal will play another match against Charleston this season, when the team visits the South Carolina club on August 1.

Admission to the game is free for all and the match can also be streamed online via www.impactmontreal.com/fcmontreal.

The team’s next match will be on the road against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, May 24, at 8pm.
