Pre-season tour for the Impact in Europe

During these two trips, the Impact will play a total of six exhibition games, in preparation for the 2008 USL D1 season, which kicks off April 11. The Impact's opponents and game schedule will be announced at a later date.

“It’s the first time in the club’s history that players will be on contract for a 10-month period,” said Impact president Joey Saputo. “Our goal has always been to extend the soccer season and to offer players a chance to remain active year-round. Starting earlier will also enable the team to be more active in the community.”

“This tour shows once again that the club is continually progressing,” noted Montreal Impact head coach Nick De Santis. “Not only is this excellent preparation for the upcoming season but for the coaching staff, it will also be a great opportunity to measure ourselves against European players and to observe young local talents.”

To prepare for this winter tour, the Impact will kick off its 15th training camp in club history January 7, at Catalogna Soccerplexe, in Lachine, approximately three months earlier than previous seasons. At that time, the majority of players under contract will be reporting to the club.

The Impact will kick off its 2008 regular season in the brand new Saputo Stadium next year. Montreal will play a 30-game schedule and will square off against each opponent three times. The top seven teams will advance to the playoff tournament, with the Commissioner’s Cup winner (regular season champion) receiving a bye into the semi-finals.
