MONTREAL – FC Montreal announced on Thursday that the team has signed Canadian right back Jonathan Grant.
“It’s important for me to sign with FC Montreal,” said Grant. “I worked hard to be here. I am happy to sign with a team with a lot of young talent.”
The Canadian international has been training with the USL team for more than a month and his integration within the group was quick.
“Jonathan is a reserved person, but since he is with a group that has a positive attitude, he was welcomed and his integration went well,” noted FC Montreal head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “He’s comfortable within the group.”
On two occasions, Canadian national team head coach Benito Floro called Grant into camp, who played previously with Sigma FC, League1 Ontario. The first time was in January 2015 for friendlies against Iceland, and the second time in March 2015 for friendlies against Guatemala and Puerto Rico.
“He has international experience and is really comfortable with the ball,” explained Eullaffroy. “He’s a player with a lot of composure that doesn’t panic.”
The 21 year old defender could be making his debut with FC Montreal Thursday against the Charleston Battery, on the synthetic field at Stade Saputo, at 4pm.
