MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Tuesday the first Special Olympics friendly soccer game between two Canadian teams in MLS, the Montreal Impact and Toronto FC, on Sunday, August 27, at 1pm, at Stade Saputo, in collaboration with Special Olympics Quebec, MLS WORKS and ESPN.
The game will be held at Stade Saputo before the important rivalry match between the two professional Canadian teams. This Special Olympics match will be played in a seven-a-side format, with two 25-minute halves.
Each team will consist of Special Olympics athletes and Unified teammates. The game will be open to fans with a ticket for the MLS game at 4:30pm (TICKETS).
Earlier this year, the Impact renewed its commitment with Special Olympics Quebec, after hosting two teams for a training session at Centre Nutrilait and a friendly game at Stade Saputo in 2016. During the MLS All-Star activities in Chicago, in July, two Montreal representatives, Félix Berthiaume, a Special Olympics athlete, and Mathieu Hevey, 18 year-old Unified teammate, travelled to the Windy City to play in the Unified All-Star Game on August 1, between the Eastern and Western Conferences.
MLS and the Impact are committed to promote diversity, equality and inclusion at all levels of sport and keep supporting programs increasing accessibility to soccer to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
