MONTREAL – FC Montreal will face the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, June 13 at 7pm at City Stadium.
It’s only a fourth game on the road this season for the Bleu-blanc-noir as the team is still looking for its first win away, losing the other three by just one goal.
The main challenge for the team will be to bounce back after a tough loss last Wednesday. Head coach Philippe Eullaffroy said after the game that the desire to win was lacking against Louisville.
“One of the good things in playing many games in a week is that after a bad performance, we have the opportunity to turn the page right away,” said Eullaffroy.
The Kickers are 3rd in the Eastern Conference, having won their last two games at home.
“We will face a really good team that plays well with the ball and is in the top of the standings,” explained Eullaffroy. “It will mostly be an individual challenge as the players have to find the mental resources game after game to get better and correct what doesn’t work. It’s the type of reaction we would like to see in Richmond.”
For the first time this season, FC Montreal is playing a series of three games in eight days, with its third game this Saturday. It’s a first test for the players, who will see this sequence a few times this summer. On this current run, FC Montreal tied the New York Red Bulls II 2-2 on Saturday, before losing 2-0 to Louisville City FC Wednesday night.
“We have many players, and the coach is making sure to rotate the players in and out of the lineup,” said midfielder Nazim Belguendouz. “Everyone is ready to play and perform when called upon. We have to challenge ourselves more, that’s the only way we will get better.”
Belguendouz will be eligible to play Saturday after serving a three-game suspension following his ejection on May 24 against the New York Red Bulls II.
