MONTRÉAL – In the spring, more than anywhere else, the return of warmer weather in Montréal brings back the joy of the city’s outdoor life. Walks through Mount Royal Park, the opening of the first terraces, and the chance to explore places winter has kept out of reach. But above all, for every soccer fan, it marks the long-awaited return of action at Stade Saputo.
A strong run of results to keep the momentum going
May 2026 has delivered plenty for the Bleu-blanc-noir. Dagur Dan Thórhallsson’s teammates, with the Icelander netting his first goal in Montréal colours last Saturday (pictured), have faced a demanding stretch of five matches in just 15 days, including four at home. As the final home match before the FIFA World Cup™ international break approaches and a showdown against Chicago, Philippe Eullaffroy’s side is on the verge of a perfect run, following key victories over New York City FC (1-0), Calgary Blizzard (5-0 in the TELUS Canadian Championship – quarterfinal vs Vancouver FC on July 8 and July 12), as well as Orlando City (2-0) and a 2–2 draw against the Portland Timbers this Wednesday.
“We want our home to become a place where, if our opponents come away with a point, they’re happy. We want them to feel that getting a result here is very difficult,” said Philippe Eullaffroy during media availability this week.
These wins have not only secured valuable points, moving the team up the Eastern Conference standings (currently 11th, 2 points from a playoff spot), but have also built confidence and composure within the squad. No matter the opponent, the team knows it can dominate at home, and the support of Montréal fans plays a crucial role.
“Playing at home, with our fans and the stadium behind us, there’s a bit more pressure — but it’s positive pressure. We want to show that we’re improving every match and that we always want more.” Chicago has been warned, it won’t be easy to disrupt this team’s momentum.
