Pregame – CLB v MTL

Montreal takes on Columbus looking for fourth straight win

CF Montréal travels to Ohio this Saturday to take on the Columbus Crew SC at 7:30pm, looking for its fourth straight win across all competitions.

Montreal took a break from MLS to focus on its first Canadian Championship matchup of the year, entering the competition in the quarterfinal stage to take on the Halifax Wanderers. Despite most of its regulars sitting it out, Montreal was able to escape with a 3-1 win, thanks to two late goals from Ballou Tabla and an opening goal from Matko Miljevic, who played his first game with the Club.

Montreal now heads to Columbus with most of its regular 11 having benefitted from a week-long break, as they try to cement their position in the Eastern Conference with the season winding down.

“We are going to Columbus confident, but humble,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “We want to win this game. We had played well in our first game against them, but we weren’t good enough to finish the opportunities we created. Our objective is to play that same way, but a little better. We’re going there with our style of play, and we’ll try to do something good.”

It’s been an extremely busy month for Wilfried Nancy’s men, as they get set to play three more games in span of eight days before the international break, but a successful one. CF Montréal goes into Columbus having lost just once in their last eight games.

It’s allowed the Club to take control of fifth in the East with nine games remaining, although they face a stiff challenge against the Crew, who sit right outside the playoff picture, eager to force their way back in.

“We’re capable of controlling and accelerating the game when we have to,” added Nancy. “What interests me against Columbus is how we approach this game from an attacking standpoint. We manage to create chances in general, so I’m not worried. That being said, when we do go through difficult moments, we need to stay solid.”

Montreal will then host the New England Revolution on Wednesday, September 29, at Stade Saputo. You can purchase tickets here.
