SUMMARY:
The Montreal Impact will play its fourth pre-season game of training camp Wednesday, against the Concordia Stingers. The Impact is still unbeaten in three exhibition games, with a 3-1 win against the Lac St-Louis Lakers April 9, a 8-1 victory against the McGill Redmen April 13, and a 3-0 shutout against the Select in Trois-Rivières April 17, in front of 2748 fans.
In the last game, midfielder Sandro Grande (21st) scored the winner on a penalty shot following an infraction on Lars Lyssand in the box. Newcomer Masahiro Fukasawa doubled the Impacts lead at the 56th minute and Nicolas Lesage, who is still trying to earn a spot on the team, put the game out of reach for the Select at the 66th minute.
The Impact will kick off its 2005 season and defend its First Division United Soccer Leagues championship title with a double-header in Puerto Rico, against the Islanders, April 29 and May 1.
PLAYER NOTES:
>With the signing of defender Adrian Cann, the Impact currently has 22 players under contract for the 2005 season.
>Forwards Matt Palleschi and Nicolas Lesage, midfielder Alpha Bah, defender Aziz Ahmamad, and free agent goalkeeper Gerry Argento are also trying to make the team.
>Since the beginning of the training camp midfielders Nino Sansone and Julian Appiah, and forward Wyn Belotte were cut.
>Impact midfielder Zé Roberto is not at training camp since he is currently playing indoor with the Philadelphia Kixx. Forward Joel Bailey, who is in negotiation with the Impact, is with the Baltimore Blast.
>Defenders Jason Di Tullio and David Fronimadis will not be part of the line-up since they are still recovering from knee injuries. Frederick Commodore is nursing a foot injury and will not be available for the game.
NEXT GAME:
Before its departure for Puerto Rico, the team will play the UQAM Citadins, April 24, at 10:00 am at Concordias Loyola Campus, in NDG.
