The Impact faces the Miami FC Sunday

THE GAME AT A GLANCE
• The team is kicking off a stretch of four straight games on the road, ahead of its home opener slated for Sunday, May 21 at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal.

• The Impact started out the 2005 season with a 15-game undefeated streak (10-0-5), a league record, before suffering its first loss on July 29, 2-1 in Atlanta against the Silverbacks.

• Since the team’s debut in 1993, the Impact has a lifetime record of six wins, five losses en one tie in season openers. Last year, the Impact settled for a 1-1 tie against the Puerto Rico Islanders, on April 29.

THE OPPONENT
• This is the very first game in the history of Miami FC, an expansion team.

• Miami FC has picked up three wins in pre-season games: 2-1 against Barueri FC, a second-division team from Sao Paulo, Brazil, March 31; 8-1 against an all-star team of Hispanic players, April 10; and 1-0 against Jamaican and Caribbean champion Portmore United, Sunday, April 16.

• Miami announced last March 30 that the team had signed Brazilian striker Romario, the second-leading goal-scorer in the history of world soccer. Romario has arrived in Miami and was introduced to the media on April 7.

PRE-GAME COMMENTS
• Impact head coach Nick De Santis: “I think it’s going to be a very tough game. This is their first game and they will be pumped up. There will be a great atmosphere with a lot of emotion but that is great for our players as well, because they'll also be highly motivated. We're excited to play. We've been training hard for the last few weeks and we are anxious to play this first game.”

• Captain Mauro Biello: “Overall, we've had a good training camp. This season we have a very solid group of players with new acquisitions that have looked very good during the camp. The new players have integrated the group well so hopefully they will help us all season long. I think we will have a very competitive team.”

• Defender Gabriel Gervais: We are very eager to start. We have been training a lot here in Fort Lauderdale and we are accustomed to the weather. Fitness is up so we will not have any excuses. We expect a very hostile environment and the crowd will definitely be on their side. We will try to get a good start with the win.”
