Impact beats UQAM 6-0

Eduardo Sebrango and Nikola Budalic led the way offensively with two goals each.

"I feel great, my knee’s doing great," said Sebrango, who established Impact club records with 18 goals and 36 points in 2002, but missed the last part of the 2003 season due to a torn ACL ligament.

Sebrango helped the Montreal team to victory with goals at the 13th and 21st minutes, on plays originated by Jason DiTullio and Mauro Biello, respectively. Newcomer Budalic confirmed the win with goals at the 54th and 81st minutes. Veteran Darko Kolic (86th) and camp invitee Mohammed Ridouani (70th) also scored.

Head coach Nick DeSantis, who intends to field a more offensive team, played with two strikers. Sebrango was matched with Fred Commodore, a former Rochester Rhinos player invited to camp. In the second half, DeSantis played Budalic and Kolic up front.

"I would have liked to see them finish more plays, but they put themselves in good position and they created some good chances" said DeSantis about his forwards. "Eddy (Sebrango) and Fred (Commodore) played well off each other."

"With two forwards, we’re going to create more opportunities on the field," said Sebrango. "We have to make adjustments but we have some good chemistry going among the forwards right now."

Greg Sutton and Andrew Olivieri played one half each in front of the Impact net. They were rarely tested.

"It’s only the first full week of camp, there is no doubt that there are still things to work on, especially on the technical side," said DeSantis. "But we still have time."

The Impact’s next pre-season game will be Saturday morning, at 9:00 AM at the Catalogna Soccerplexe, against the University of Montreal Carabins.

The Montreal squad will then be only two weeks away from its season opener, set for Sunday, April 25 in Puerto Rico against the Islanders. The home opener at Claude Robillard Stadium will be played on Sunday, May 16 at 4 pm against the Virginia Beach Mariners.
