IMPACT 3 LYNN UNIVERSITY 1

Impact midfielder Martin Fabro opened the score in the 13th minute of play, following a deep pass from Mauricio Vincello that split the defense. Fabro streaked in alone and beat goalkeeper Tim Melia with a low shot.

Forward Matt Palleschi prepared the second goal for Montreal in the 37th minute when his centering pass was deflected by a Lynn University defender into his own net.

Team captain Mauro Biello completed the score in the 81st minute, redirecting a cross from defender Seth Trembly with a header in the top left corner of the net.

Lynn University’s Dwight Barnett beat goalkeeper Impact Andrew Weber in the 16th minute.

“It’s positive because we’re creating chances,” said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. The result is not as important, but it’s always good to win. We’ve now scored five goals in three games, which is always good for the team’s confidence.”

“We bounced back really well after our loss against Rochester,” said Impact defender Gabriel Gervais, who took part in his first pre-season match following a groin injury. “Even if this is exhibition play we don’t want to lose two consecutive games. Everybody followed the game plan well and the result was positive.”

For the first time during training camp, head coach De Santis did not field two separate starting line-ups for each half. Impact goalkeeper Andrew Weber played the whole match.

Midfielder Antonio Ribeiro, who also missed the previous games because of a groin injury, saw some action for the first time this season, playing 25 minutes.

After three exhibition matches, the Impact now has a record of one win, one loss (1-3 against Rochester) and one tie (1-1 against Honduras).

The Impact will play its last pre-season game Tuesday, April 3, against Miami FC. The team will then return to Montreal for its final preparation before kicking off the 2007 USL D1 season April 21, in Atlanta, against the Silverbacks.
