Budalic scores two more: Impact 3, Carabins 1

Two of the Impact’s three goals were scored by newcomer Nikola Budalic, at the 27th and 80th minute of play. Budalic also scored twice in the Montreal team’s first pre-season match-up, Tuesday, in a 6-0 win against the UQAM Citadins.

Sandro Grande scored the first goal against the Carabins, at the 15th minute of play. Grande, a 26-year-old Montrealer who spent six seasons playing in Italy as a midfielder, has reached an agreement in principle with the Impact, but transfer details remain to be worked out.

Head coach Nick DeSantis played his veterans in the first half against the University of Montreal, and then inserted players on trial in the second.

"We controlled the game in the first half, but in the second, when we put in a lot of players fighting for a spot, we were outplayed," said DeSantis. "I would have liked to see more intensity than that."

DeSantis will make his first cuts over the next few days.

The Impact will play one last pre-season game next Sunday, April 18, this time against another A-League team, the Salty Dogs. The match-up will take place in Syracuse starting at 3 pm.

Montreal players will then be only one week away from their season opener, set for Sunday, April 25 in Puerto Rico against the Islanders. The home opener at Claude Robillard Stadium will be played on Sunday, May 16 at 4 pm against the Virginia Beach Mariners.
